State Representative Dan Dodd, a Democrat from Hebron, has called for Attorney General Marc Dann’s resignation.
“Well, I believe that the chief law enforcement officer of the state of Ohio must be able to give all Ohioans confidence that he or she can and will be held to a higher standard. Marc Dann shouldn’t be treated any differently in that respect. His actions show that he has not earned the trust that we placed in him when we elected him Attorney General. I think his actions and the damage that they have caused are irreparable and the best thing for our state to do is to get a new Attorney General and move forward.”
Governor Ted Strickland and several other Democratic leaders, including Lt. Governor Lee Fisher, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown, Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner, Treasurer Richard Cordray and others, sent a letter to Attorney General Dann Sunday night asking for the same thing.
However, Dann issued a statement Monday that acknowledged the letter, but said he will continue to work ‘on behalf of the people of the State of Ohio.’
He went on to say Governor Strickland and other officeholders ‘should continue to expect that we (his office) will continue to provide high-quality legal services to all of them.’
In the letter calling for Dann’s resignation, the Democratic leaders also stated that if Dann refused to step down Monday morning, they will introduce a resolution seeking his impeachment immediately.
Representative Dodd says he will support such a resolution.
“The chief law enforcement officer, as I said, has to have the trust of Ohioans, and he has breached that trust. I don’t think he can recover it from Ohioans because of what he has done as our Attorney General. I think the actions that he has committed are impeachable, and I will support impeachment.”
