The Johnstown-Northridge Food Pantry is putting out an urgent call for food.
Director Ruth Krumm says that the pantry has been serving twice as many families each month and now they are faced with empty shelves.
Krumm adds with the failing economy and high gas prices, many new families are coming to the pantry for assistance.
Almost 70 families received food in both March and April. Residents wishing to donate food can drop off food items during the day at the pantry located at the Johnstown Independent Baptist Church located on State Route 37 across from Croton Road.
The pantry has operated in northwest Licking County for more than 25 years.
The pantry is organizing a food drive for May 24 from 10-2p.m. at the church.
