Little Leaguers from across Newark and Licking County are getting ready for the annual North Newark Little League Memorial Tournament.
Scott Evans says that they have been hosting the tournament for the last 20 years or so at Levin Park on Sharon Valley Road in Newark.
“We have nine host teams and fifteen teams from around the county come in and play. We do Round Robin play on Friday and Saturday and championship round on Sunday.
Evans explains what sets this tournament apart from other little league tourneys
“For a long time now, we have worked really hard on our park and really believe that our park is one of the premiere little league parks in Licking County. We have a great group of volunteers that keep the park going. It is a fun weekend and a really fun time for the entire family to come out and watch a game.”
Evans says that the tourney starts Friday May23rd and weather permitting the championship game will be held that Sunday night under the lights at Levin Park.
“With the help of the city of Newark back in 2005, we renovated Levin Park to meet Little League standards on the fields and we have the lights down there. We play a few games under the lights on Friday and Saturday night and the championship game will be under the lights at 8p.m. Sunday evening.”
Evans says they are still looking for teams to take part.
“We will usually look for teams right up until the time the tournament starts. The cost is $150 per team. We supply the balls. We have a great concession stand. We have a few games going on at the same time as the baseball games. We have a jump room, a speed gun for throwing a baseball and a basketball hoop so they can win prizes between games.”
