Dozens of walking teams will converge on the OSU-Newark and COTC campus in Newark in about a month.
The first annual Licking County Walk for Diabetes is designed to boost awareness and help fight diabetes in central Ohio.
"It will be a great day. We're going to provide breakfast, we'll provide lunch, also we'll increase your diabetes awareness. Everybody's going to learn something about diabetes that day," says Marlene Powers, the event coordinator, with the American Diabetes Association.
"We're going to have great entertainment for the kids. We're going to have a wonderful kiddy corner. We'll have nice entertainment there for the kids. Good food, good fun and a great way to show support for your community."
The day is designed to teach people about diabetes.
"Learn more about diabetes and be more conscientious of it. You can protect yourself. Know what to look for. Know what questions to ask your doctor."
The Walk for Diabetes is coming up May 7 at the OSU-Newark and COTC Campus.
